Upon completion of Zoom registration, you will receive a confirmation email with a link to join the Zoom meeting. Please be sure to watch the film prior to the live discussion.

The Swimmers will be the second one in our 2023 Movie Club series. The first was The King of Masks.

The Swimmers follows the life story of teenage Syrian refugees Yusra Mardini and her sister Sarah Mardini, who swam alongside a sinking dinghy of refugees to lighten it, and eventually help 18 refugees to reach safety across the Aegean Sea while being smuggled from İzmir towards Lesbos. Subsequent struggles as refugees are vividly depicted, but Yusra Mardini's swimming career sees her reaching the Rio 2016 Olympics as a member of the Refugee Olympic Team.1 *1:Wikipedia

Support the GlobalWE mission while in the comfort of your home!
Each month GlobalWE announces a new film that is widely available on platforms. We ask that you watch the film at your leisure from the comfort of your home and then join us online, on the given date, for a lively discussion. In our virtual gathering, we will discuss the film, raise questions, and advance the mission of GlobalWE: the empowerment of women through education, dialogue, and connection among individuals working for women's rights and freedoms worldwide. We hope to see you then!
